Welcome to our photo collection from the North Island of New Zealand. Over the two and a half weeks we were in NZ we took about 1700 photos so you’ll only be getting a snap shot of the trip, but I’ve picked out some of the good ones for a little selection of highlights. There are so many more, some of them even good, but here are some favourites.
For anyone who likes words as well as photos the itinerary for our trip was roughly as follows:
- Auckland and Mt Eden
- Waitomo Caves
- Waitomo and drive to Taupo
- Taupo, kayaking and fairy garden then drive to Rotorua
- Rafting and louge in Rotorua
- Geyser, hot springs, Cultural show
- Drive to Bay of Islands
- Dolphin watching tour
- Drive back to Auckland
Mt Eden, a dormant volcano overlooking Auckland has an amazing view from the top. The crater specifically said no mountain biking though!
Flowers and bees!
We felt welcomed by this lovely colourful sign!
Old bones. The caving hut we stayed in had a collection of old Moa bones and amazing historical artefacts. See the maps later!
Old cave maps stored in the cave house. So cool! So much caving to do in NZ I’ll have to do another trip!
Lake Taupo. From here we could see snow, kayaked out to see giant Maori carvings and general good things.
Warning hot. Though the person who kicked down the fence wasn’t worried!
A nice beach in the Bay of Islands area.
