Alice Springs Grassfire

This little bushfire put a dampner on my ride this morning and resulted in a few diversions.

Hi Everyone, I’ve decided that blogs frustrate me because you can never find a page you want when you want it. For that reason I have created a new page called my Adventure Directory, where I intend to keep links to all the cool adventures friends and I have had over the years. I may even include some posts from my favourite blogs, like twobreakfasts, Tandem Travellers and Northern Walker. […]
Having failed to set out on my planned 8 cycle tour through the Victorian Alps last week I ispent three days over New Years in the Namadgi National Park, which is just south of Canberra. The three day ride presented some of the hardest riding I’ve ever done, so people out there, perhaps don’t follow my lead on this ride. Day 1: Pain 65km – 40km of dirt – so […]
For once someone else was taking the photos on Sunday so I have two photos of me riding my mountain bike to put up, they are both very unexciting but it is evidence that I do get out on my bike occasionally. The second one proves that I am unfit and feel my legs even on a recovery ride.
As i ride around Alice Springs on my mountain bike I often come up against a common problem. I don’t know where the mountain bike trails go, or what they are called. Being a nerd, and lazy, I felt I had to do something about it so I have started assembling my GPS traces into a map overlaid on Google Earth which shows all the trails I have ridden on […]
Yesterday evening I had the pleasure of going for a ride after work with the local mountain bike club. The group meets at 5 and then heads out for a 1hr loop with fast, intermediate and slow groups splitting off to do an appropriate ride. The ride didn’t start particularly well as I was running late due to problems assembling my back tyre after my puncture on the weekend (which […]
Smooth trails, great company and a patched up side wall. What could possibly make for a better day of mountain biking then that combination? Today I went out riding with a group of keen riders from the Central Australian Rough Riders to explore the trails on the east side of Alice Springs, including some freshly cut trails that most people hadn’t ridden before. The riding was generally smooth with early […]
Ever arrived in a new town and wondered what the best way to get to know the local mountain biking scene? On Sunday I tried my fourth method and it worked out brilliantly. The method, signing up for an enduro race as part of a team, and letting someone else put you in the team! So after a late start I rocked up at the Mt Gillen 6hr Enduro race […]
Today I went out to explore the mountain bike trails at Daisy Hill Conservation Park for the first time. It is 5 days since it last rained so I thought that there would be a bit of mud lying around but that the tracks would generally be dry enough to ride. How wrong I was…. It turns out that the tracks at Daisy Hill hold water like nowhere else, despite […]
So after 6 weeks in Brisbane it seems like it is time for my second general update on what is going on and why I still seem to have no free time, even though I am unemployed. If you have suggestions on what I should be doing let me know, otherwise I’ll just keep enjoying the life of a leisure! Volunteer Work I thought that since I have to give […]
